Summer Green Wedding Photoshoot in Japan: Moss Gardens & Bamboo Groves
Summer in Japan is the most overlooked yet artistically rich season for kimono pre-wedding photography. From the fresh green of May and June, through the deep moss-green tones of the rainy season, to the warm light of late summer, this five-month window offers Japan's most painterly natural light and the lushest greenery. The trade-off is humidity — but couples who shoot at sunrise or in the late afternoon find the conditions surprisingly comfortable, and the lack of crowds means longer, more relaxed sessions at locations that would be packed in spring or autumn.
Mid May to late June (fresh green, low humidity). Mid September (humidity drops, less crowded). Avoid July-August peak heat unless shooting at sunrise.
Vivid lush green, soft diffused light during rainy season, occasional dramatic skies. Shiromuku reads with sculptural clarity against deep green; iro-uchikake offers warm contrast.
Standard pricing throughout most of summer. Late August (Obon week) is a shoulder peak; otherwise, no surcharges and frequent off-peak weekday discounts.
Excellent availability 3-6 months ahead even at top studios. Shoots should be scheduled at sunrise (5:30-7:30 AM) or late afternoon (4:30-6:30 PM) to avoid midday heat.
