About Wasou Wedding Japan
A small editorial team in Tokyo and Kyoto, publishing the kimono wedding photographers we would actually recommend to a friend flying in for a shoot.
Wasou Wedding Japan is an independently edited directory of kimono pre-wedding and post-wedding photographers in Japan. We cover Kyoto, Tokyo, Kamakura, Nara and 20 other cities, and we translate the practical details — permits, seasons, fees — that international couples need to plan their day.
We are not a booking agency. There is no markup, no commission split, no concierge fee. Couples write to the photographer directly, in English or Korean, and arrange the shoot themselves. We make money from publisher relationships and from contextual ads — never from your booking.
Every photographer on this site has been reviewed by our Japan-based editors against the same checklist: do they answer in English within one business day, do their shrines actually grant filming permits, and would we book them ourselves.
How we work
Editorially independent
We publish photographers, not packages. No vendor pays to be listed; no listing is removed because a vendor disagreed with a review.
Local, in person
Our editors live in Tokyo and Kyoto. We have shot at the shrines we cover and queued at the kimono houses we recommend.
Practical, not poetic
We tell you what a permit actually costs, how far you walk to the shrine, what the photographer will and will not bring on the day.
